James Lindsay of New Discourses outlines the mid-level violence tactic so often used by the Left.  One other possible response might be to turn the tables and do the same back to them.  This kind of violence is actually a form of bullying.  It looks like cowardice from a certain point of view, but it is a trap.  It looks like a no win situation, but winning in a no-situation is achieved by turning the trap around.
